| Item Description: | List of the archive of the Order of the Friendly Brothers of St Patrick, held in Marsh's Library. The archive comprises c.300 volumes and 2500 papers, spanning the dates 1750-2017. The Order of the Friendly Brothers of St Patrick is an Irish fraternal and benevolent society formed in the early eighteenth century, supposedly as an anti-duelling society. The first recorded meeting took place on 17 May 1750 at Athenry, County Galway. Material less than 100 years old is closed; these items are identified in red. 'The cataloguing of these papers was supported by the Heritage Council under the Community Heritage Grant Scheme 2023.' |
