Robert Andrews (ed. & trans.), The Works of Virgil, Englished (Birmingham, 1766).

A beautifully printed English language edition of Virgil’s masterpiece. The volume is opened at line 264 of Book VI: the entry of Aeneas into the Underworld. Maturin uses a quotation from this section at the start of Chapter VII of Melmoth the Wanderer.
