Virgil, Priores Sex Libri Aeneidos Argumentis, 3 vols, (Lyon, 1612-19).

This three-volume edition of Virgil’s works is supported by extensive scholarly notes in Latin and Greek.

The sumptuous frontispiece engraving shows Virgil (bottom left); the Emperor Augustus Caesar (bottom right); Caliope, the muse of eloquence (top left); and Clio, the muse of history (top right). The image at the top and centre of the page depicts Aeneas carrying his elderly father Anchises from the ruined city of Troy.
