Stamping a New Identity

This stamp album belonged to Newport J. D. White, the Keeper of Marsh’s Library.

This section for the new Irish state begins with British stamps overprinted with ‘Saorstát Éireann 1922’.

When the new state began to print its own stamps, they featured symbols of Ireland, including a Franciscan friar at work, and a map of the island — notably without the border with Northern Ireland.
