Here begynneth the treatys of Nycodemus gospel (London, 1507).
The Gospel of Nicodemus claims to be a contemporary description of the trial, crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. It is actually a creation of the middle of the fourth century AD. This explains its non-canonical, or apocryphal, status within the Christian tradition.
Nicodemus is mentioned in the Gospel of St John as a Pharisee who tried to intercede for Christ during his trial and helped to take his body down from the Cross.
The book has been opened at an image which shows Nicodemus addressing Pilate on behalf of Jesus.
