Henry Southwell, The Universal Family Bible (London, 18th Century)
The endleaves of this Bible record the births, christenings, illnesses, and in some cases, deaths, of the sixteen Kemp children born between 1809– 1832. The pastedown on display is a list of the children who contracted whooping cough, measles and ‘rash fever’. Sadly, following pages reveal that the youngest children, the twins John and Charles (born 13 July 1832) died from whooping cough. Sarah Ann and Eliza died in 1811 and 1822 respectively.
