At foot of title page and on last leaf: 'Cum priuilegio ad imprimendum solum'. The 'u' of imprimendum is upside down on title page. Gothic font. Woodcut initial 'C' on p2v has red and black ink. Printed manicules. Pen marks on B3 and F3 and correction to text on N3. No other annotations. Pages have been trimmed. Previously located at E2.7.8. Pasted onto back endleaves: 'Bishop Hilsey's Primer (London 1539). This and other similar primers of the time had some influence on the Prayer-book, especially in the text of the canticles'. Beside which is written: 'Exhibition in T.C.D. Apr.-June 1949'. Similar information is written on top flyleaf. Note placed in copy states: 'Primer. Bishop Hilsey's primer printed at London 1539. By John Mayler for John Wayland Andrew Hester, and Michael Lobley. This copy belonged early in the seventeenth century to Humphry Dyson who paid 2/6 for it. It was afterwards sold at Richard Smith's auction 1682 Lot 51. STC 16010'. |
