| Item Description: | Item number 18, from the 'Memoires of Abraham Tessereau' v.1 Pages are taken from an unidentified printed book. Title taken from section starting on printed p. 213. Pages run until p. 234, stops and starts again on printed p. 245 running to p.270. Numbers 825-869 in ink at top of pages. The printed text is crossed out on pages 245 and 270. This last page has four black seals. Annotated in the margins . On page 245, the compiler explain his choice to reorder the texts and to place the text on page 215 following the other texts starting on page 245: "Avant de rapporter la déclaration du 1er de février 1669, Il est à propos de reprendre la suite des sollicitations concernant l’Edit de suppression des chambres de l’Edit de Paris et de Rouen, les députés […] parlé au Roy, Jugement à propos de dresser des moyens de R[…] aux abus qu’on alléguait pour avoir un prétexte de suppression des chambres. […] 14 ajournements à ces moyens […] Nouvelle Requeste mais le tout fut". And it continues on the next page: "Inutilement l’Edit de suppression intervient […] et du moys du […] 1669, le […] de paris le vérifia […] 4 février suivant, ces procès seront rapportées du […]". On page 213, the compiler writes a short note to remind the new order of the texts: "Nous rapporterons provisoirement la". Summary of the texts: 1. Declaration of the King to revoke his previous declarations of April 1666 concerning the regulation of the so-called reformed Religion. 2. Abuses have been noted in the Chambers of the Edict of Paris and Rouen because of which it is planned to abolish these chambers. The blame is placed on Protestants as well as Catholics. The author advocates good understanding so that these rooms function properly. 3. Representatives of the so-called Reformed Religion write to the King to explain to him the importance of keeping these chambers in exercise of their functions. 4. The King returns to what was supposed to be done in the Chambers of the Edict of Paris and Rouen and decides to suppress them. The question of Protestants will be dealt with directly in the Grand Chambers of Parliament. |
