Binding Note:Rebacked. Note pasted onto lower back pastedown: Conservation Note 17th century full goat skin binding sewn with dark brown thread on 6 raised hemp cords. Both binding boards are detached. Only fragments of the spine are left. The textblock is severely torn and has missing areas. The textblock was dry cleaned and pulled. Wet processing included wetting in a 1:1 alcohol/water solution, deacidifying with calcium hydroxide (1.5g/1 lt water) and re-sizing with gelatin (7g/10 lt water). The textblock was repaired with French handmade paper, lens tissue, Japanese long fiber paper and wheatstarch paste. French handmade paper and linen flanges were added to the first and the last fly leaves. The text was sewn with dyed linen thread (dark brown) on 6 raised linen cords. The spine was lined with Japanese long fibre paper and linen. Endbands were sewn onto a linen core with the same dyed linen thread. A "one on, two off' hollow was pasted to the spine. The sewing cords were frayed out onto the binding boards under the lifted leather. The corners of the boards were reinforced with linen fibres and wheatstarch paste. The book was rebacked with goat skin, surface dyed to match the original colour. The flanges added to the flyleaves were pasted down under the lifted original pastedown and the original pastedowns were pasted back in place.
