Binding Note:Binding: Dublin red Morocco gold-tooled to an all-over design. Small 'centre type' with harp. The structure of the design is formed by pointille gouges and intertwining curves radiating from the centre; birds, flowers, leaves rosettes, sceptres, 'cross over in sheild' and other small tools are used; border roll. The spines had five bands and six gold-tooled compartments, with green lettering piece in the second and black in the third. comb-marbled endleaves and gilt edges. Small repairs to spine by Middleton; corners of Vol. 1 slightly rubbed. See Craig, page 17, on the 'small-centre' group of Dublin binders and compare his plate 45 which has many features in common with the present binding. See archival envelope for further information.
