| Binding Note: | Binding: Irish gold-tooled red morocco, finely executed. A deep border formed of a series of rolls and tools. A triangular design in the corners forces the border to cut the corners. A large centre diamond motif formed of tools fanning out from an imaginary line crossing the diamond. Some of the border tools are used,. Seven raised bands, and eight compartments onlaid in tan and dark blue. The title is in the second compartment ; the others are ornately tooled in style of the diamond on the covers. Distinctive boldly combed marbled pink endleaves. Gold-tooled turn-ins; the edges of the boards also tooled; gilt edges. Rebacked, but original spine retained. Some damage to the covers, but it does not detract appreciably from the magnificence of the binding. |
