Summary of the text: After having mentioned certain points of the Edict of Nantes, in particular the Preface which speaks of freedom of conscience and the rules concerning the exercise of the Reformed religion, the author recalls that Henri IV had cancelled the edicts, declarations and other decisions of his predecessors to bring peace. The decision remained in force under Louis XIII. What follows is a list of the different legal documents from the reign of Louis XIV, reversing the previous practice. The supplicants ask the king to respect the Edict and to revoke the declarations, rulings and judgments which have caused them so much suffering. |
