| Item Description: | Item number 51, from the 'Memoires of Abraham Tessereau' v.2 No annotations. No manuscript numbers. Summary of the text: This newspaper article reports the decision taken by the King of England (Charles II) to welcome all French Protestants forced into exile because of their religion. He declares that they will not have to pay anything to come, that they will be naturalized and that they will be able to practice their professions without concern. This is followed by an oath to the king that every person holding public office must make. The text following this is a letter addressed to the king from the royal agents of the County of Northumberland asking the king's forgiveness for wanting to overthrow the government and for killing his father, and claiming allegiance to the king. And finally international news reporting that King Louis XIV will probably travel to Italy or Germany, and that French Protestants from La Rochelle have arrived in Plymouth. |
